What is a group of raccoons called?
A group of raccoons is called a gaze. They are very social animals and are used to surviving in families and groups. The young remain with their family for about a year before going off to meet a mate. A bunch of raccoons are also called a nursery.

I chose gaze just because of the look they give you when you find them in your garden shed.

I have always heard of them called troops, so that is what I went with.

They are the reason my poor little dog can't go out in her yard from dusk until around noon during their breeding season here in Cntrl TX.( Nov-June) They will gut her if she accidentally comes up on one of them. I can't keep up with removing them or putting out deterrent. They live in the rain ditch behind the houses across the road. Nothing can be done about them. They come looking for food all over the neighborhood. Lots of old trees in our neighborhood too. It is a haven for giving birth and setting up their little families.

I've seen groups of raccoons while on outings in the nearby forests with Boy Scouts that I've led, and I've them milling around on our deck at home. Other than just calling them groups, I might consider "gaze" since I never saw even one of the animals that looked like it was in a "nursery".

Some additional research by the author would have shown that the collective name for raccoons can be gaze, nursery, brace, committee, smack, troop. It would appear that gaze and nursery are the most common names. Question reviewers need to do additional research to make sure the question and answer are valid and not just within their own knowledge.

I was more familiar with it being called a nursery, which is funny considering what little destructive monsters they are, even though they look adorable!

I’ve always thought that a group of raccoons is called a “nursery of raccoons” (silly me)

Wendy Petty, nursery was the answer to a similar question long ago. I suspect that if I did a search, I would find other answers as well.
